We have so easily come to accept the family dynamic (that is often portrayed in movies and media) of one or both parents only coming to fully love, accept and support their child once the child "proves their success" or "proves that they are the best". This is obviously not a healthy relationship, and yet it is so often turned into and emotional and romanticized moment of being "reunited" in films, when the child finally "proves to the parent" that their choices were "right". Furthermore, where else in our lives may we be unknowingly creating this same conditional relationship?
