When we look in on other people's lives we often see only what they want us to see: A perfect picture. We know within ourselves that that is not the real picture, but we fall into the trap of believing that it is and then compare ourselves and our lives to that fantasy we've been shown. Obviously it is an impossible ideal of perfection - no one is perfect and no one has the perfect life - but we all work so hard to make our lives appear to be so much better than they are. The incongruence within us at this contradiction of our real self as being imperfect and our ideal self (shown to the world) as being perfect creates immense stress and conflict within us.
