Day 1056: We Can, But Don't

The technology to manufacture cars with lower C02 emissions is here, it's available and its being used in the manufacturing of cars in first world countries, but cars that are manufactured for third world countries (like South Africa) are YEARS behind in this technology - even though they're made at the same places. Why does this happen? Why do we willingly choose the more destructive options, rather than simply making all new cars with the best possible technology?
